Analog input modules connect field instruments to PLC, DCS, and remote I/O systems by converting continuous electrical signals into digital values for control and monitoring. Typical architectures use multi-channel input circuits with signal conditioning, isolation, analog-to-digital conversion, diagnostics, and backplane communication to the controller. Depending on the platform, modules may support current, voltage, thermocouple, RTD, or other sensor inputs with configurable ranges and channel parameters. Their functional role includes acquiring process variables such as pressure, temperature, flow, level, speed, and position for logic, alarming, trending, and closed-loop control. Selection depends on signal type, channel count, resolution, isolation, wiring method, and compatibility with the installed control system.
