The GE IC697RCM711 is a Redundancy Communications Module designed for the GE Fanuc 90-70 series. It is used to synchronize the two CPUs in a hot standby or enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy system. This allows for seamless switching between the two CPUs in the event of a failure, ensuring that the system remains operational.
The IC697RCM711 is a single-slot module that installs in any slot between slots 2-9 of the PLC rack. It has five LEDs that indicate the status of the module and the CPU redundancy system:
- Board OK: Indicates that the module is functioning properly.
- Local Ready: Indicates that the local CPU is ready to take control of the system.
- Local Active: Indicates that the local CPU is currently in control of the system.
- Remote Ready: Indicates that the remote CPU is ready to take control of the system.
- Remote Active: Indicates that the remote CPU is currently in control of the system.
- The IC697RCM711 also has a pushbutton that allows the user to manually switch from the active unit to the backup unit. This can be useful for maintenance purposes or to troubleshoot problems with the active CPU.
