Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OWNA is a 32-point relay contact output module for the PLC-5 platform. It provides four groups of eight normally-open contacts rated at 24-138 V AC / 24-125 V DC, designed for switching resistive loads with complete isolation between field circuits and the backplane.

Technical Specs

  • Output points: 32 (4 groups of 8), non-selectable N.O. contacts
  • Voltage rating: 24-138 V AC RMS, 24-125 V DC
  • Current rating: 1 A continuous per output, 4 A per group, 12 A per module
  • Contact power rating: 30 W resistive at 45 °C, 15 W at 60 °C
  • Backplane current: 2.5 A max, 1.8 A nominal
  • Operate/release time: 5 ms (+1 ms) typical
  • Switching frequency: 10 Hz max
  • Wiring arm: 1771-WN

Key Features

  • 32 normally-open relay contacts for flexible load switching
  • Group isolation with individual commons per group
  • Blown fuse indicator for quick fault diagnosis
  • Suitable for resistive loads; not recommended for inductive or capacitive loads

FAQ

  • Can the contacts be configured as N.C.? No, the OWNA provides non-selectable normally-open contacts only. For selectable N.O./N.C., use the 1771-OW.
  • What is the maximum cable length? 1000 ft (304.8 m) for interconnect cables.
  • Is it suitable for motor starters? It can drive motor starters within the 1 A per point and 30 W contact rating limits.

Installation Guide

  1. Power down the 1771 I/O chassis and field wiring.
  2. Insert the module into any slot except the leftmost.
  3. Attach the 1771-WN wiring arm and connect load wiring per the connection diagram.
  4. Verify keying bands are positioned between 6-8 and 16-18.
  5. Apply power and test each output group for proper switching.

Selection Tips

  • Select 1771-OWNA for high-density relay contact applications requiring N.O. contacts.
  • For 8-point selectable N.O./N.C. contacts, choose the 1771-OW.
  • Limit loads to resistive types; inductive loads require external suppression.
