Proximity probes and sensors are non-contact measurement devices used in machinery protection, condition monitoring, and industrial position sensing. In rotating equipment systems, eddy-current proximity probes operate with extension cables and signal-conditioning electronics to measure shaft vibration, axial position, speed-related references, and relative displacement. Other industrial proximity sensors detect the presence or position of metallic or non-metallic targets depending on sensing technology. Their architecture typically includes a sensing element, cable or connector interface, and compatible signal electronics that convert target distance into a usable electrical output. Selection depends on probe diameter, range, thread and mounting style, cable length, target material, environmental rating, system compatibility, and the required measurement function.
