Rockwell Automation and Cisco Join Forces to Rewire India's Factory Floor

India's manufacturing landscape is about to get a serious dose of digital intelligence. Rockwell Automation and Cisco have announced a strategic partnership aimed at reimagining how factories operate—by blurring the lines between the office network and the production line.
The two industry giants are introducing what they call a "software-defined manufacturing" framework to the Indian market, a full-stack reference architecture designed to help manufacturers break free from traditional automation silos. Think of it as giving factory floors a central nervous system—one where enterprise IT systems and operational technology (OT) can finally speak the same language, securely and in real time.
At the heart of the initiative is a demonstration facility—or "Demo Pod"—set up at Rockwell Automation's Gurugram location. This isn't just a showroom; it's a sandbox where customers, system integrators, and technology partners can test-drive software-defined manufacturing architectures before rolling them out across live production environments. For industrial solution providers, it's also a stage to demonstrate how integrated networking, automation, and software capabilities perform in real-world scenarios.
According to the companies, the integrated IT-OT infrastructure promises a host of operational benefits: better network observability, reduced risk, improved resilience, and secure data flows across the entire industrial ecosystem. More importantly, it lays the groundwork for AI-driven decision-making on the factory floor, simplifying the deployment of intelligent manufacturing applications.
Dilip Sawhney, managing director of Rockwell Automation India, framed the collaboration as a turning point. "India's manufacturing sector is entering a new phase of digital transformation," he said. "By bringing together industrial automation expertise and modern digital infrastructure, we are helping manufacturers build operations that are more resilient, intelligent, and ready for the future".
Cisco's Kartika Prihadi, vice president for partner and routes to market sales in Asia Pacific, Japan, and Greater China, took it a step further. "By unifying secure networking, automation, and AI-ready infrastructure, we are helping manufacturers move from automation to autonomy," she said, hinting at a future where factories don't just run themselves but continuously optimise their own performance.
But the partnership isn't just about hardware and software—it's about people. Recognising that the most sophisticated technology is only as good as the workforce operating it, Rockwell Automation and Cisco have launched a joint digital skills programme. The initiative combines Cisco's Networking Academy with Rockwell Automation's Learning+ platform to deliver training in networking, cybersecurity, and software-defined industrial environments. The goal? To prepare India's manufacturing workforce for a future where connected systems, industrial AI, and digitally managed operations are the norm, not the exception.
As Indian manufacturers increasingly invest in automation, connectivity, and AI to sharpen their global competitive edge, the Rockwell-Cisco collaboration arrives at a pivotal moment. By weaving together industrial automation, secure networking, and workforce development, the two companies are offering more than just a technology stack—they're offering a blueprint for the factory of tomorrow, built in India, for the world.
