ABB Expands Grid Automation Portfolio Through Netcontrol Acquisition

ABB has announced the acquisition of Netcontrol, a Finland-based provider of grid automation and control solutions, reinforcing its position in digital technologies for power distribution networks. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions. Financial details were not disclosed.

Founded in 1991, Netcontrol specializes in SCADA systems, substation automation, and advanced grid management solutions for distribution network operators and critical infrastructure customers. The company employs around 100 professionals and has a strong presence in Northern Europe.

Enhancing ABB’s Distribution Solutions

Netcontrol will become part of ABB’s Distribution Solutions business area. Its technologies will complement ABB’s existing portfolio and be delivered through ABB’s global sales and service network, allowing utilities to benefit from a broader range of digital tools for grid monitoring, automation, and optimization.

ABB stated that the acquisition will help customers build power networks that are more flexible, resilient, and ready for future energy demands. Netcontrol’s management emphasized that joining ABB will enable its solutions to reach new markets while continuing to support existing customers.
